Benny in Venice, Italy

Ciao (hello and good bye) pronounced CHOW.  Try telling your friends hello and good bye in Italian.
Welcome to Italy.  The flag is green, white and red.  The first city we visited was Venice.  This city is very different because all the streets are water!!! There are no cars!  They have police boats, fire boats, ambulance boats, taxi boats and boats that families own just to get around.

Behind me are homes that people live in.

I sat among the pigeons at Saint Mark's Square.  They liked to eat the left over crumbs that people would throw to them.

This is the top of Saint Mark's Cathedral

There was much shopping to be done.  I tried on a hat!

Many people hung their laundry outside their windows.  There weren't any yards.  Do you hang your clothes on a clothes line or do you have a drier?

I really needed a nap but instead I had a cup of coffee.  Do you like to take naps?  Do you drink coffee!!!

These boats are called gondolas and the man on the back who steers it is called a gondolier.  They usually wear black and white striped shirts and black pants.  Sometimes they even sing while they drive you to your destination!  Would you like to stand on the back of a gondola and taxi people around?  Would you sing for them?  What would you sing?

Across the water street is the train station with all the people coming to visit Venice.
